Speaking of Last-Minute Hit Pieces
Godden consultant condemns last-minute hit pieces, the day her own last-minute hit piece lands in Seattle mailboxes.
As we reported in Fizz this morning, city council member Jean Godden sent out a last-minute mailer last week accusing her challenger, Bobby Forch, of lacking integrity, misusing sick time to campaign, and illegally concealing campaign donors.[pullquote]Irony Alert: "It's late in the game, it's an allegation that can't be sustained before the election."—Consultant Cathy Allen.[/pullquote]
Ironically, the consultant behind the mailer, Cathy Allen, appeared on KCTS 9's "KCTS Connects" on Friday, the very day the anti-Forch hit piece landed in local mailboxes, and criticized supporters of Republican Mike Hope, running against Democratic incumbent Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, for making ugly last-minute allegations that Reardon does not have time to disprove.
In the clip, Seattle Times columnist Joni Balter calls the allegations---that Reardon misused county dollars to pay for travel---"a classic cheesy late hit [intended] only to raise doubts and throw crazy stuff up in the air."
After nodding in agreement, Allen chimes in: "It's late in the game, it's an allegation that can't be sustained before the election."
