National Attention on Costco Liquor Initiative
Erica notes in her daily Campaign Fizz post that the PI has a roundup of hot things to watch in tomorrow's election returns.
While we appreciate that, we'll take our cue from the hoity-toity DC magazine the National Journal. In its roundup of things to pay attention to nationwide, they include I-1183, Costco's $22 million crusade to privatize liquor.
Their take, which pretty much misses the real point—Costco's chutzpah—and is wrong about I-1183's chances (check out this morning's Fizz for a little inside info ... it's gonna win), is, for what it's worth, this:
Also on the National Journal's list, the Son of Wisconsin—a measure in Ohio, SB5, that would repeal Republican Gov. John Kasich's limit on public employees' collective bargaining rights. A poll shows 57 percent support repeal.

In Washington, Costco has poured over $20 million into an initiative that would privatize liquor sales in the state. It's unclear whether the measure will pass, but some observers think that if it does, Costco will attempt a similar measure in Oregon, another state that currently has a state-run liquor sales monopoly.
