Council Member O'Brien Joins Anti-Big Bank Protest
City council member Mike O'Brien plans to participate in Monday's "National Bank Transfer Day," an Occupy Wall Street-affiliated day of action in which people across the country will close their bank accounts and join credit unions to protest bank bailouts and ever-increasing banking fees. O'Brien is joining Verity Credit Union.
In a statement, O'Brien said, “I got sick of all the fees and hassle of the big banks, making life difficult for customers while reaping record profits. ... I believe City Council should also take a look at where the City puts its money and makes its investments."
Council spokeswoman Laura Lockard said she was not aware of any other council members switching from banks to credit unions.
