On July 23rd, gunfire erupted at a crowded lowrider car show in the LaPlaza shopping center in the 23200 block of Pacific Highways S.
Twelve people between the ages of 14 and 30 were wounded in the shooting, apparently sparked by a dispute between rival gangs attending the car show.
According to police, although at least 100 people were at the car show during the shooting, witnesses were reluctant to provide police with information.
One month after the shooting, the King County Council pulled together $1.4 million to crack down on gangs, purchasing new equipment for the King County Sherrif's Office gang unit, creating outreach programs, and staffing a new anti-gang prosecution unit.
Kent Police Department spokesman Pat Lowery declined to comment on the shooting investigation or say whether any arrests had been made, but confirmed the department is holding a press conference at 11 am tomorrow at the site of the shooting.
