Financial Manager Phillip Yin to Challenge Cantwell

By Josh Feit September 28, 2011

KING 5 reports that former financial manager Phillip Yin—most recently a TV anchor for Bloomberg business news in Asia—is gearing up to run against Democratic US Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA).

KING 5's Robert Mak interviewed the Republican hopeful yesterday.

Asked if Cantwell is to blame for the current financial mess, Yin says yes.

But here's where the standard GOP attacks don't exactly work. Cantwell famously opposed
Obama's and George Bush's Wall Street bailout. More importantly, she has been hailed as a hero (by Wall Street Journal reporter Ron Suskind) for her aggressive work on financial reform
. (Again, she lined up as an Obama antagonist on financial reform—hitting him from the left while busting his Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner.)

Safe to say, a former Wall Street manager and business reporter vs. an economics wonk like Sen. Cantwell will make for a substantive election campaign.

Cantwell has $2.2 million on hand, according to the latest Federal Elections Commission reports.
