The PI.com reports that US Rep. Jim McDermott, D-WA, 7., and his wife Therese Hansen are divorcing after 14 years of marriage.

McDermott said in a brief statement: "“The end of a marriage is difficult and painful:  This is a personal matter and I hope you will respect our privacy."

McDermott has served in Congress for 12 terms. This was his second marriage.
