Reichert Votes with Democrats on Environment, Herrera Beutler Does Not.

By Josh Feit July 14, 2011

The increasingly extreme US House voted 239-184 today to gut the Clean Water Act
by devolving authority over clean water regulations to the states.  All five Democrats in the Washington State delegation voted against the measure, as did Republican US Rep. Dave Reichert (R-8 ). Reichert was one of just 13 Republicans to vote 'No' on the measure.

Yesterday
, Reichert voted with Democrats against overturning light bulb efficiency standards. The Republicans needed a supermajority for the light bulb vote and fell short.

Washington State's three other Republican reps, including freshman Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-3, Southwest WA), voted with the Republican majority to weaken the federal guidelines.

The local Sierra Club singled out Herrera Beutler in a statement this afternoon. Sierra Club Senior Organizing Manager Kathleen Ridihalgh said:
As a new member of Congress, Jaime Herrera Beutler’s record is shaping up as anti-environmental. She represents a district that values clean energy innovation, health, and clean air and water. Her voting record is out of step with those values.
