Reagan Dunn Running for AG
Republican King County Council member Reagan Dunn, the son of former Republican U.S. Rep. Jennifer Dunn, announced today that he's running for attorney general in 2012.
Dunn had said he was waiting for Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna to announce his intentions before making his own plans public, so his announcement today---just one week after McKenna announced he's running for governor---is right on schedule.
The Seattle Times has the news.
Democratic King County Council member and council chair Bob Ferguson has already announced that he's running for the job.
Also in the mix: Democrat John Ladenberg, the former Pierce County Executive who lost to McKenna in 2008.
Relentless Washington State Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz released the following statement about Dunn's announcement today:
The PI.com has more on the news, including an interesting quote from Dunn, who says he'll "have a different approach" on the environment, adding, "I’m going to work hard at protecting the environment, I’m going to work hard on putting the feds’ feet to the fire."
Dunn's statement highlights something I think may be McKenna's weak suit in his run for governor. McKenna's likely challenger, U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA, 1) is a strong green. As a strong opponent of the Critical Areas Ordinance as a King County Council member and proponent of property rights issues as AG, McKenna hasn't been an environmental champion.

Reagan Dunn has been more focused on higher office than his current job for years, so this is no surprise. We can expect the same sense of entitlement and partisanship from Reagan in this campaign as his role on the Council—all the ambition with none of the substance required to be effective.
We need an attorney general committed to consumer protection and standing up to big oil and big banks, not a partisan apologist for special interests.”
