Tonight
PubliCalendar Picks: Redistricting Commission in Seattle
Washington State's redistricting process is in full swing at the legislative and congressional level. The five-member bipartisan Redistricting Commission has been traveling around the state gathering input from rural and urban communities. The commission will meet in Seattle tonight to listen to your thoughts on legislative boundaries and where the new 10th congressional district should go.
In December, 2010 census numbers revealed that the state's population climbed an estimated 830,000 people in the last ten years (mostly in the Eastside Seattle suburbs and in the third congressional district) which means the new district will likely pop up in the central Puget Sound region.
Last week we linked to some wonky redistricting commentary and a push by civil liberties groups who are trying to create more minority-majority districts east of the cascades.
The hearing starts at 6:30 tonight at the North Seattle Community College Theater on 9600 College Way N.
