Former King County Executive and Obama's assistant secretary at the department of Housing and Urban Development is leaving his post and returning to Seattle.

In a message to his HUD colleagues today, also up on his Facebook page, today he wrote:

"Today is one of the more difficult days of my time with you. I want to let you know that at the end of July I am retiring from public service and heading back home to my family in Seattle ..."
