"Council Candidate" Who Said He Was Robbed Not a Council Candidate

By Erica C. Barnett June 21, 2011

Remember the guy who told Seattle police he was robbed of $985 at gunpoint while going door-to-door seeking contributions for his city council campaign?

We thought the story sounded a little weird. For one thing: Who solicits for contributions door-to-door at 10:30 at night? For another, $985 would be quite a haul.

Turns out that, the alleged victim wasn't running for city council at all. SPD spokesman Sean Whitcomb confirms that none of the men who are running for council (the police report identifies the supposed victim as male) were the person identified in the report.

The case has been deactivated, meaning SPD is no longer looking into the robbery charges.
