This Seems Out of Date on Arrival: Latest Elway Poll Says Obama Numbers Down In WA

By Josh Feit May 2, 2011

A new Elway Poll (conducted prior to last night's big news about Osama bin Laden), says Obama's approval rating is slipping in Washington State, a state he won by nearly 60 percent in 2008.

Overall in Washington State, Obama has a 39 percent "Positive Job Rating" as opposed to 60 percent in 2009. Obviously, he's doing much better among Democrats, although, the drop their is significant—from 90 down to 70. The key stat is his drop among the all-important Independent voters from 55 percent in 2009 to 32 percent today.

When it comes to age, only people over 65 years old nudge Obama's job rating over 40 percent, at 44 percent. The under 35 set only gives Obama a 37 percent good job rating.

But let's be honest, the Elway poll was conducted between April 25 and 27. We're now living in a Post-5/1-World.

For what it's worth, Elway writes:
Barack  Obama’s  job  performance  rating  has  shifted  42  points  in  the  negative  direction  over  the  last two  years  among  Washington  voters:  his  positive  ratings  dropped  21  points  and  his  negative  ratings  rose 21 points compared to 2009. This  is  a  rather  stunning  finding  in  a  state  that  Obama  carried  with  58 percent  of  the  vote.

Obama  will  also  have  to  win  back  Independents,  who  are  key  everywhere,  but  especially  in Washington.  A  significant  number  are  unhappy, but winnable: 64 percent of Independents in this survey gave him a negative job rating, but only 45 percent were ready to replace him.
