Today in Bad Analogies: Tunnel Opponent Compares Project to "Slutty Mom"

By Erica C. Barnett April 18, 2011

A Facebook battle over the tunnel erupted this past weekend between Real Change director (and tunnel opponent) Tim Harris and Downtown Seattle Association VP (and tunnel proponent) Jon Scholes.

[pullquote]OK, so the analogy---tunnel as codependent ex-girlfriend, surface/transit as psycho bitch---is a little sexist for my taste, but Harris takes it to a whole other level.[/pullquote]

In response to an update by Protect Seattle Now, the anti-tunnel group, comparing the deep-bore tunnel to an abusive, litigious ex-girlfriend ("Now when I try to break up with her, she just shouts in my face that I fear commitment and that I’m childish"), Scholes wrote,
Of all the gals you've dated, your family likes this one the best. We'll never all be able to agree on the perfect girl for you and we don't want you to end up old and alone. What we do agree on is that the new girl you have been flirting with is a total train wreck and just wouldn't work out.

OK, so the analogy---tunnel as codependent ex-girlfriend, surface/transit as psycho bitch---is a little sexist for my taste, but Harris takes it to a whole other level.

Here's his over-the-top response:

Thought the tunnel conversation was already overheated? Well, nothing elevates the debate like analogies about clingy exes and slutty moms.
