PI: Special Session to Start Tuesday
Chris Grygiel at the PI has the report from Gov. Chris Gregoire's press conference where she announced that she's calling the legislature back for the much-anticipated special session starting Tuesday. The legislative session was supposed to end this Sunday, April 24.
In unfinished business: passing a budget and all the bills needed to make it work (like bills that limit eligibility requirements for children's health care).
Also expected to take center stage in the post-session session, liquor privatization. Two competing proposals, one that's already included in the house budget, that would privatize the state's distribution system in a profit sharing scheme that proponents say would bring in $300 million; and another, introduced by a bloc of conservative Democrats and Republicans at the behest of Costco, that would privatize the whole industry.
