PI: McKenna Campaigning in Seattle
PI reporter Chris Grygiel has a report from the Westin, where Republican Washington Sate Attorney General Rob McKenna, sounding very much like a candidate (he's expected to run for governor next year), spoke to the Rotary Club.
McKenna apparently hit standard GOP themes, saying the government can save money by being more efficient. Specifically, McKenna recommended using "performance management" to weed out bad employees.
Grygiel notes, however, that McKenna—clearly aware of Washington State's moderate sensibilities—did not go with the sharp anti-state employee rhetoric used by other Republicans, such as Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Grygiel reports:
As we noted in Fizz this morning, McKenna's (campaign) swing through Seattle lands at the UW tonight where he's speaking at an event hosted by the college Republicans.

He said the people in the best position to ensure that state government is run more efficiently are the employees who staff the agencies. “State employees are not the problem. State employees are the answer.”
