Holmes Pulls Out of Tunnel Interview
City attorney Pete Holmes, who was scheduled to debate the tunnel referendum with referendum proponent Dave Bricklin on C.R. Douglas' "City Inside/Out" show on the Seattle Channel this week, will no longer participate in the interview, his spokeswoman confirms.[pullquote]Douglas says the show's producer didn't get the call, which came from Holmes' chief of staff Darby Ducomb, until this week. Douglas says the show's producer didn't get the call, which came from Holmes' chief of staff Darby Ducomb, until this week. Holmes agreed to participate in the show, which is taping this afternoon, last Wednesday.
Holmes' spokeswoman, Kimberly Mills, says he's unavailable for today's taping due to a "scheduling conflict" that was compounded by the fact that Ducomb is out this week. According to Holmes' schedule, which Mills provided to PubliCola, he is meeting with Joe King of the Alliance for People With Disabilities when the show is being taped. However, he was free between 9:30 and 11 this morning and between noon and 1:00.
However, Douglas says the channel tried to come up with alternative times when Holmes could make it (the Seattle Channel is located in the basement of City Hall), but "they kept saying he was unavailable."
PubliCola has a records request in to Holmes' office to find out what he has scheduled during today's 2 pm taping.
Holmes has filed suit to stop the tunnel referendum from going to the ballot, arguing that the city-state agreements the referendum would repeal are merely "administrative" measures put in place to uphold the city's previously adopted legislative policy supporting the deep-bore tunnel.
