U.S. Sen. Murray on Geraldine Ferraro

By Josh Feit March 26, 2011

Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman to be on a U.S. presidential ticket, died this morning. Ferraro ran as the VP candidate on the doomed Democratic ticket alongside presidential candidate Walter Mondale in 1984, taking on popular incumbent Ronald Reagan and his VP George H.W. Bush.

The NYT has her "saucy" obit. She was 75.

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray released the following statement:
Geraldine Ferraro took a shot at one of the highest offices in the land, and her efforts made a difference for every woman in America. I got to know her over the years and I saw her strength in overcoming adversity time and again. And her final battle with her personal health never kept her from working on behalf of women and the issues she cared about most. She will be missed.
