Quote of the Day: State Rep. Hunt Calls Out GOP Double Standard on Fees
Conservatives in the state senate—Roadkill Caucus Democrats and their ally Republicans—have put out the word that "fees" (charges on specific activities that get earmarked to pay for related services, as opposed to taxes that go to the general fund)—aren't acceptable as part of the budget solution.
Conservatives view "fees"—like the one pitched (unsuccessfully) by environmentalists earlier this year on oil companies to help pay for stormwater cleanup—as a liberal fake-out move.
However, one "fee" the conservatives support is hunting and fishing licensing to cover the costs of outdoor sporting.
Which brings us to our "Quote of the Day," overheard outside a hearing room in the hallway of the state house building.
Take it away Rep. Sam Hunt (D-22, Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater):
We have a call in to Rep. Hunt so he can elaborate. He was reportedly "all riled up" about this issue.

"Yes, let's cut every program that people rely on to live safely, but by God, we shall not stop anyone's ability to hunt or fish."
