Repeal Hundreds of Tax Exemptions
1. State Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles (D-36, Ballard) introduced a bill
yesterday that would repeal hundreds of sales and B&O tax exemptions and mandate that they become part of the regular budget process as state expenditures.
Kohl-Welles has 10 co-sponsors (all Democrats) including Seattle Sens. Adam Kline, Ed Murray, Sharon Nelson, and Scott White. The bill was referred to the ways and means committee where Sen. Murray is chair.
2. Mayor Mike McGinn's twitter page had the scoop last night: His wife's bike was stolen.
3. The Seattle PI.com has more on the school district scandal first reported by the Seattle Times yesterday: Urban league and a former Port of Seattle administrator are among contractors that got questionable payments from the Seattle Public Schools.
4. The census bureau released a user friendly map detailing the stats of the 2010 census, including a specific breakdown of which counties grew the fastest—data that will inform the redistricting process to create Washington State's new 10th Congressional District.
The redistricting commission notes:
