State Senate Majority Leader Addresses Cost Overruns Issue. Kinda.

By Josh Feit January 14, 2011

At her weekly press availability today, I asked state senate majority leader Sen. Lisa Brown (D-3, Spokane) about her infamous answer at last week's Seattle CityClub legislative preview.

Asked last week if Seattle was on the hook for any cost overruns on the deep bore tunnel, Brown held up the 'Yes' card.

I asked her to explain.

"I don't think anything's coming out of this session to change that [provision]," she said.

So, does she think the provision is enforceable and Seattle is on the hook?

She said there are "differing opinions on that."

Her out
on the toxic question of who should pay overruns: "I personally don't believe there should be overruns, and we're seeing costs come down on big projects right now."

She did add this: "We don't have any additional state money identified."
