Illegal Immigration Initiative Filed
An ballot initiative [proposed text here] to empower local law enforcement to coordinate with federal immigration authorities to arrest illegal immigrants and to mandate that employers check all employees immigration status has been accepted and sent to the attorney general's office to receive and official ballot title.
Local law enforcement is currently prohibited from demanding immigration papers.

This measure requires state and local agencies to assist in enforcing federal immigration laws. All private and public employers would be required to “E-Verify” immigration status of employees, subject to lose of licenses and other penalties. It would require verification of immigration status of applicants for many public benefits. Nonprofit organizations would be prohibited from offering employment services without proof of immigration status. Issuance of driver’s licenses would be prohibited without proof of immigration status.
