PI.com: McGinn Wants to Know If Gay Bars Are Being Targeted
The PI.com's Chris Grygiel reports on Mayor Mike McGinn's announcement last night that he wants to make sure gay bars aren't being targeted unfairly for enforcement. As the Stranger
has reported, the state liquor control board has been accused of unfairly targeting gay bars for showing gay porn.
As McGinn also said at last night's briefing: "There have been concerns that enforcement towards establishments that cater to gays and lesbians have been inappropriate [and] targeted."
McGinn says he has requested an audit of the city's Code Compliance Team enforcement efforts. That squad is made up of representatives of the Seattle police and fire departments, the liquor control board, the city attorney's office and the mayor's office. McGinn said the goal is to encourage businesses to follow the laws and regulations governing nightlife establishments in a collaborative way.
