Gov. Chris Gregoire says Washington State cannot afford to have a presidential primary in 2012—not when it's already facing a $4.6 billion budget deficit for 2011-2013, and when party caucuses already serve the same purpose.

Josh, for example, tells me that while he was a Hillary delegate at the 2008 caucuses, he didn't even vote in the Democratic primary two weeks later.

A reluctant Secretary of State Sam Reed says:
Suspending this election will save taxpayers more than $10 million. Ordinarily, I would be the last to propose suspending an election, but these are not ordinary times and we all are looking for ways to tighten our belts and live within our means.
