Is Rep. Rick Larsen Funny? You Decide.

By Josh Feit December 3, 2010

Politico has video footage of US Rep. Rick Larsen's (D-2, WA) nearly nine-minute-long standup routine
at last night's annual "Washington's Funniest Celebrity" competition, where, as Fizz reported this morning, he won second prize. (Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett took first-place honors).

After leading off by teasing his fellow contestants for their off-color material---"The good news is that all the jokes about erections and with the F-word have been told tonight. The bad news is I have no act left"---Larsen launched into a routine about the Tea Party, Obama, and Starbucks.

Larsen saved his toughest line for President Obama. Gesturing toward a crowd filled with White House staffers, he said, "No one's at the White House tonight---but how is that different from the past two years?"

Larsen also took on the Tea Party---"They want to implement the vision of the founding fathers, so there will be a lot of change," Larsen said, including "travel by horse. I wouldn't want to be the first TSA agent to have to pat down a horse."

And he told Al Qaeda jokes, with a line about the toughest job in the world, third in command at Al Qaeda. "We have killed that guy like seven times. Whenever we need a good morale boost, nothing does it like killing the third in command at Al Qaeda." He said the next toghest job was fourth in command at Qaeda because, well, they're next.
