Rep. Simpson Receives Two Years' Probation
State Rep. Geoff Simpson (D-47), charged with domestic violence against his ex-wife earlier this year, has agreed to two year's probation, city attorney Pete Holmes' office said today. During those two years, Simpson will have to break no laws, avoid contact with his ex-wife, and go through counseling; if he meets all the terms of the agreement, known as a stipulated order of continuance, the charges will be dismissed.
Simpson was accused of shoving his ex-wife earlier this year at Children's Hospital, where their daughter was recovering from surgery. It was the second time he was charged with domestic assault. Simpson blamed the charges on political enemies and called them "false and outrageous." He was defeated by Republican Mark Hargrove in the general election earlier this month.
