That Washington

Re: Why I Think Rossi's Going to Win

By Erica C. Barnett November 2, 2010

Josh doesn't buy in to his friend A. Birch's hope that "libs will get off their asses" and turn out for Sen. Patty Murray (read why here). Although I predicted
yesterday that Murray's going to win, I've gotta say, I've been less than impressed with the Democrats' efforts to get out the vote.

Although Washington's an all-mail-voting state, they've been targeting voters here with a generic "locate your polling place" push. All week, the Democratic National Committee has been running huge ads (not cheap) on the Seattle Times
and PI.com encouraging voters to enter their address on the Dems' web site find their polling place. Of course, since there are no polling places in Washington anymore, Washington State voters who enter their address get this:

And then, just yesterday, Obama's operation sent out a text message to folks who signed up for his alerts in 2008: "Tomorrow is Election Day! President Obama is asking you to cast your vote for Democrats. Text PLACE to find out where to vote."

I'm still waiting for a response to that one.

So obviously, a couple of election-eve flubs don't spell doom for the Dems' whole ground game. But given how close the Murray-Rossi race has been in the past few weeks, you'd think they'd put a little more effort into rallying the troops for tonight.
