Evening Fizz: AP Calls Election for Larsen
The Associated Press has called the Second Congressional District election for incumbent Democratic Rep. Rick Larsen, who currently leads GOP challenger John Koster 51 to 49 percent. The AP quotes Larsen as saying in a statement, "This election proves that every vote counts. ... The political landscape has changed and the new majority now has an equal responsibility to govern. One lesson of the Democratic Party's loss is that Americans want bipartisanship. The American people want the parties to work together."
In an email last week that referred specifically to Larsen's race, Washington State Republican Party chairman Luke Esser warned the GOP troops, "Don't let the Democrats steal this election!" Noting that "many of our races are still too close to call," Esser wrote that "the Washington State Republican Party has deployed election observers all over the state to closely watch the ballot counting process, and retained teams of lawyers to prepare for legal action if it is necessary. It is critical that we continue these efforts for another two weeks."
