Morning Fizz
Barely Holding On
1. The way things stand now after last week's election, state Democrats hold a 57-41 advantage in the state house (compared to the 61-37 advantage they held last session) and a 27-22 advantage in the state senate (compared to the 31-18 advantage they held last session.)
Four races are still too-close-to-call and could change the numbers. State Rep. Roger Goodman (D-45, Kirkland) is leading his Republican challenger Kevin Haistings by 375 votes after surging back. He was down by 683 votes on election night, 473 votes after the second count, before pulling ahead.
State Rep. Dawn Morrell (D-25, Puyallup) is beating her GOP challenger, Hans Zeiger by 121 votes and Democrats Luis Moscoso has a 638-vote lead over Tea Party candidate Heidi Munson in the 1st Legislative District in the Bothell area. (The pair are vying for the open seat formerly held by retiring Democratic Rep. Mark Ericks.)
And there's still one nail biter in the state seante: State Sen. Steve Hobbs (D-44, Lake Stevens) has a 706 vote lead over GOP challenger Dave Schmidt.
2. Also: Controversial state Supreme Court Justice Richard Sanders is barely holding on against challenger Charlie Wiggins, 50.4 to 49.6. Sanders is up by just over 10,000 votes.
Most of the ballots left to count are in King County where Wiggins is getting over 57 percent.
3. Come discuss the local and national election results at PubliCola's annual debrief on Tuesday night with Republican KOMO talk jock John Carlson and Washington State Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz at Liberty on Capitol Hill at 7:30. 517 15th Ave. E.
Barnett moderates.
4. Speaking of post-election analysis, the Seattle Times' Jim Brunner had an article this weekend explaining the five reasons why U.S. Sen. Patty Murray defied the red wave and beat GOP challenger Dino Rossi.
5. Josh and Erica's suspensions (for making political contributions to liberal groups) have been officially lifted—which is excellent news because we're dying to hear from Erica about Mayor Mike McGinn's budget cuts threat over his proposed commercial parking tax.
