We've been so focused on the drama at city hall, we missed this news from the Public Disclosure commission on Friday: The Building Industry Association of Washington has been fined for setting up a political committee that used undisclosed funds to campaign for Dino Rossi against Gov. Chris Gregoire in the 2008 governor's race.

The PI.com has the basics:
The Building Industry Association of Washington has been fined $548,000 for violating the state's campaign finance disclosure law, the settlement announced late Friday by the state Attorney General's office.

The BIAW's Member Services Corporation was charged with asking local builder associations to help fund a multi-million dollar campaign against Gov. Christine Gregoire with anticipated refunds from a pooled worker compensation insurance program.

The money, from 11 builder associations, went to ChangePAC, a BIAW front group that was mounting a massive anti-Gregoire TV campaign on behalf of Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi.

Money that went to the campaign - and went undisclosed with the public having no way of knowing ChangePAC received these funds - totaled $584,527.
