Morning Fizz
File This One Under Embarrassing Flub
1. The Seattle Times
added on to PubliCola's story about Dino Rossi's inadvertent visit
to a shipbuilding company on Whidbey Island, the Nichols Brothers Boat Builders, that got over $800,000 in Obama stimulus money.
The Nichols brothers did not return PubliCola's calls for the story, but they did talk to the Times—telling them that the Obama stimulus money (which is Public Enemy Number One in Rossi's stump speech, along with health care reform and the bailouts) was "a big part" of helping the shipyard add over 100 jobs.
2. Speaking of the Seattle Times : Yet another poll, this one by the Times and the Spokesman-Review , has Sen. Patty Murray beating Dino Rossi 49-41.
This is the fourth poll in a week that gives Murray a comfortable lead. However, this poll doesn't have Murray over 50 (as the others did), and it gives Rossi's rap the edge among Independent voters.
3. The "Don't Ask Don't Tell" repeal is scheduled for a senate vote this Tuesday. (The house already voted to let the DOD repeal the policy in late May.)
In case you missed it, Lady Ga Ga wants you to protest the GOP filibuster.

4. File this one under embarrassing flub of the week. The klutzy quote comes from Mayor Mike McGinn. Go to about the 9:50 mark on this video from last Thursday's North Seattle community forum.
“Get right up to it. Swallow it. That’s what they say to me...” McGinn told a community member right before she stepped up to the mike to introduce herself as a "mother, and president of the parents club."
5. The Seattle Times busted the high-earners' income tax campaign, I-1098, for overstating how many small businesses would be newly exempt from the tax. 118,000 small businesses would be newly exempt, not 375,000 as the campaign said.
Overall, the state says 80 percent of small businesses would not pay the tax.
We flagged a potential issue with I-1098 and small businesses earlier this month.
6. Missed our inaugural NerdHour at the Five Point Cafe last month? No worries. We're doing it again. On September 28, right after work.
Julie Edwards, the spokeswoman for Sen. Murray and Jennifer Morris, the spokeswoman for Dino Rossi will be on hand to geek out with you about tax policy, health care reform, the economy, and campaign strategy.
And we know we've got plenty of Republican readers (Hey, 47th LD!) Come on out so Morris has some backup.
