Will Olympia Get Its First Lesbian Legislator?
Laurie Jinkins led the pack of Democrats trying to fill retiring Rep. Dennis Flannigan seat in the 27th Legislative District.
Jinkins, who won endorsements from labor and education reformers (not often the case), has 33 percent and will face off against rival Democrat Jake Fey, who has 29 percent, in the Pierce County district in Tacoma and Fife.
If Jinkins wins she will be the first openly lesbian candidate ever elected to the state legislature.
Jinkins is the Deputy Director of the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.
