Sen. Scott Brown Coming to Town for Rossi

By Morning Fizz August 20, 2010

1. Clint Didier is holding a press conference this morning. The one-line press release said:
Clint Didier holds news conference with an announcement regarding the U.S. Senate race of Patty Murray v. Dino Rossi

Asked to elaborate—would Didier be endorsing Dino Rossi? His campaign spokeswoman emailed:
If I tell you now why would we have a news conference?????????? nice try.

2.
Progressive darling Joe Fitzgibbon edged into first place over Democrat Mike Heavey by 186 votes after yesterday's tally in the race for  34th Legislative District state rep—which kind of makes you wonder about the progressives' strategy this election.

Fitzgibbon, who's similar to Heavey on the issues, was the beneficiary
of $35,000 in independent expenditures, mostly from progressive unions. Meanwhile, it looks like the Republicans may take out three progressive state senators in the Eastside Seattle suburbs—Sens. Randy Gordon (D-41), Claudia Kauffman (D-47), and Eric Oemig (D-45), who are currently losing to their GOP challengers by 137 votes, 2,386 votes, and 625 votes respectively.

Total in independent expenditures from liberal groups in those pivotal races: $0.

3. Tea Party darling (although, he's turned out to be a moderate Republican) Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) is coming to Washington state on August 31 to raise money for Dino Rossi.

Rossi sent out an email promo yesterday asking supporters to enter on online drawing to win dinner with Rossi and Brown or contribute $25 to be entered into a drawing to attend the photo reception and dinner.

The FEC says that's cool, but Morning Fizz is still wondering about the whole lottery-style set up. We'll report back.

4. Sorry we've been delinquent about "On Other Blogs Today" the last few days. Here's a roundup of Primary Election analysis: Brad Shannon at the Olympian; Jim Camden at the Spokesman Review; and Peter Callaghan at TNT. The consensus: The GOP is threatening, but it's not 1994.
