That Washington
House Passes Medicaid Funding. Reichert Votes No.
In a special vote today, for which they were called back from summer recess—the House passed the Medicaid and teachers funding bill 247-161 along partisan lines with Democrats in the 'yea' column.
This is the bill that Sen. Patty Murray got so much attention for last week when her funding amendment passed the Senate. (The bill will fund 3,300 teaching jobs in Washington state and provide much-needed $340 million in health care money.)
In perfect election season pitch, Gov. Gregoire's press release about the bill (it was a big deal for Gregoire because the state budget would have gone $300,000 into the red without the money) name-checked the members of Washington's delegation who voted for the bill. The list of 'yea' votes? All six of Washington states Democrats.
Gregoire's statement said:
U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert (R-WA, 8 ) was a 'nay. '
We await the Suzan DelBene press release. (Former Microsoft exec DelBene is the Democratic running against Reichert.) We have a call into Rep. Reichert's office.

Gregoire's statement said:
“Here in Washington, we’ve already had to make $5.1 billion in cuts to the state budget. Without this aid, we would have been forced to make further draconian cuts that would have put our economic recovery in jeopardy while eliminating services like medical care for children and low-income families. Investment in education and support for our people, especially in this economic time, is essential.
“I especially want to extend my thanks to Representatives Norm Dicks, Jim McDermott, Jay Inslee, Brian Baird, Rick Larsen and Adam Smith who worked tirelessly to secure this funding in the House. I also want to thank Speaker Pelosi for her leadership during this process.”
