Gregoire: Tunnel Overruns Language Wasn't Mine
In our interview with Gov. Chris Gregoire this morning, we asked the governor about a startling quote house Speaker Frank Chopp (D-43, Seattle) gave the Stranger last month, passing the buck for the controversial tunnel overruns provision in state law on to Gregoire.
"No," Gregoire said when asked if the language for the provision was hers. "Frank's confused. My staffer distinctly remembers one of his [Chopp's] staffers coming out of the speaker's office and handing us the language he wanted [to pass the tunnel bill]. It was brought to me, and in my office we changed some words. But was it my idea? No it wasn't. Was it my language? No. I didn't like the language."
