Candidate Accuses Rival of Stealing Signs, Threatens Retaliation in Voice Mail. Listen In.
Republican Gregg Bennett is challenging incumbent state Sen. Rodney Tom (D-48, Medina), and he’s “heated up” about yard signs.
PubliCola obtained audio footage of a voice mail that Bennett left on Senator Tom’s personal cell phone, in which Bennett accuses Tom's campaign of stealing his signs. According to Bennett's account, wherever one of Bennett’s signs disappears, a Tom sign crops up in its place.
And he's not gonna take it any more. "I'm having trouble understanding how naive or unknowing of the facts you are in this situation, but I do have a team of high school kids that are certainly willing and able to take down every one of yours', and every one of Ross Hunter's signs in the district if that's what we're gonna get down to."
In an email, Tom said, “I have never been involved, encouraged, condoned, or had knowledge that either myself, my campaign staff, or any volunteers associated with my campaign have taken down any of your signs. [Your accusation] clearly shows you do not have the values or judgment to be a state senator.”
Bennett sat down with PubliColaTV earlier this month for a video interview to talk about his campaign platform. We called Bennett’s campaign for comment on this issue, but did not receive a response.
