Extra Fizz: Race to the Top Money in Jeopardy
Several governors, including Governor Chris "I need $480 million" Gregoire, have their eyes on the feds, hoping for FMAP dollars (medical insurance money that has been voted down
three times now). But today, a second pot of money (this bundle for schools), is also in jeopardy.
An amendment to an education bill, proposed by U.S. Rep. Dave Obey (D-WI), would cut $500 million from the Race to the Top grant program—which was potentially worth $250 million a year for Washington state .
Of course, the Race to the Top money was not guaranteed to begin with. Washington state is currently one of several states applying for the education funding.
