That Washington

At the State Democratic Convention: Patty Murray Interview

By Bryce McKay June 26, 2010

On Saturday moring, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA)  indicted Wall Street and BP in an address to Democratic Party convention delegates in Vancouver, saying that corporations like BP should be paying for their own mistakes and that Americans are "mad as hell at Wall Street."

Murray was available for press a few minutes after her address. When we asked her about her support for corporate bailouts, and the Wall Street bailout in particular, TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program), Murray had this to say:
"I took the time to call Washington businesses. I asked them about the consequences and the thousands and thousands of jobs that would have been lost."

After her research, Murray voted for the bill. She said, "I didn't like doing it."
