Incumbent Democrat Steps Up Fundraising in Hot Eastside State Senate Race

By Camden Swita May 13, 2010

After we reported that Sen. Randy Gordon (D-41, Mercer Island) was losing to his GOP opponent, Steve Litzow, in fundraising—which was true at the time—he called us up
and explained that he couldn’t fund-raise while he was still in session, and we had made an unfair comparison.

At the time of his phone call, he’d climbed in fundraising from the March reports we saw—when he was at $12,000 to Litzow's $30,000—to about $20,000, he said. Now, the official April reports are out, and Gordon has certainly stepped it up. He's raised $32,872.94.  Litzow has raised $37,311.65.

Things didn't change for the better for the Democrat in another Eastside race, however, where, similarly, a Republican

challenger is taking on an incumbent Democrat to reclaim the once-GOP Microsoft burbs. Gregg Bennett, who’s running against Sen. Rodney Tom (D-48, Bellevue), is still trouncing him $180,277.80 to $36,975.43.

And Joe Fain, the one GOP hopeful who was actually losing the funraising race when we checked in last time, is still losing, but not as badly.  The incumbent, Sen. Claudia Kauffman (D-47, Kent), was ahead $81,512.79 to $34,311.70. Fain has closed the gap to $86,833.90 to $49,191.70.
