Last Night
Last night, the Cola staff piled into our small office at the Terminal Sales Building for a meet-and-greet. RealEstateNerd, for example, had never met MusicNerd. And no one had ever met LawNerd, aka Advokat.
I've certainly met everybody before, but I did learn something new about Cola reporter Chris Kissel: He was a Channel One kid when he was in middle school in Colorado.
Channel One, of course, was the bogey man for people (me) who had Philip-K.-Dick-nightmares about the pending corporate superstate back in the 1990s.
Chris Kissel? PubliCola's hot-wired reporter ? He was a mark for the corporate tricksters who bought their way into the classrooms of America with Fortune 500 propaganda? He was one of the kids I was so worried about?
Turns out Chris did not grow up to be a brainwashed consumer zombie. He's a smart , critical reporter. "Channel One is the reason I got into news," Kissel said, upending my formative convictions, sipping his bud light and munching on Sun Chips last night.
