Car-Rail Collision in Rainier Valley
A car collided with a southbound light rail train at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way and Elm Grove about half an hour ago, Sound Transit spokesman Bruce Gray confirms. Gray says the accident has been cleared, but that trains may run up to 15 minutes behind in both directions until 7:00 tonight.
According to the Seattle Fire Department's live 911 log, the department sent 13 units to the accident scene; a fire department spokeswoman said the department initially treated the collision as a "heavy rescue" but that there ended up being no major injuries.
This is the fourth rail-train collision since light rail opened last July.
The moral of the story: Trains are bigger than cars, so don't try to outrun them. Train always wins.
