Blue Scholars Verse After Verse

A little less than two weeks ago, I wrote about some fire-y guest verses that Geo of Blue Scholars had recently unveiled and predicted that 2010 would be a good year for the group. That prediction may have seemed odd: Sabzi has temporarily relocated to Brooklyn and Geo is busy being a cinephile. The group's ability to stay in the Seattle music limelight looked questionable because frankly, they didn't seem interested.
But just yesterday, two announcements emerged from the Blue Scholars camp that show the group is still grinding in 2010. Geo released a rather funny track that was inspired by right-wing Filipina-American mouth piece Michele Malkin. Since Geo is also Filipino-American, it's good that he named a song after Malkin, and then lambasted her verse after verse.
You can download that tune here. I recommend it just for laughs if nothing else. You'll notice a rather artful flip of Sade's classic "Feel No Pain"—that beat and congas, smoother than baby skin, running throughout the song.
I figured that was the only news that would emerge, but as the day ended, I got an email announcing that Blue Scholars are also doing a two-night stand at the Showbox at the Market in March. They've got a history of doing multi-night shows in their hometown, and I'm glad to see that on March 26 and 27, they'll be keeping that tradition going. The lineup on both nights looks like a giant party. You might not recognize all the names but I can tell you that Bambu, Gordon Voidwell, and Das Racist are not to be missed. If you do head to the Blue Scholars website to download the new "Michele Malkin" song, be sure to check out their recent tour photos from North Carolina, Nebraska, etc.; it's even more proof that the duo are uniting when Seattle isn't watching and coming strong in 2010.
