Seattle's most active grassroots hip-hop organization, 206 Zulu, ia celebrating a birthday this weekend. Today they are six, and they've got a three day extravaganza of events starting now. There was already the 206 Universal Hip-Hop Summit for youth this morning at the Seattle Center and the actual kick off party is tonight at Hidmo. There will be DJs and performances all night, plus admission is free.
Tomorrow, there's a big Zulu Jam happening at the Vera Project from 3-8 p.m., and on Sunday at the Cirque Events Center, you can check out a major b-boy/b-girl competition with cash prizes ranging from $2,000 to $500. This city has no shortage of skilled breakdancers, and considering folks have been known to fly in from all over the country for the competition, it's definitely something fans of dance culture won't want to miss.
Given that one of 206 Zulu's most beloved members, James "Talksick" Sullivan passed away unexpectedly this past October, I suspect there will be a tribute in his honor as well.
