This Washington

Rockin' With the National Guard

By Josh Cohen January 22, 2010

Should our democracy completely crumble—as many think it will after yesterday's Supreme Court ruling giving corporations an unfettered political voice—I have a great idea for a post-Democracy Senate chambers. Make it a concert venue.

The Legislature is honoring the Washington National Guard today and the Guard band played the national anthem to open the Senate session. It sounded great. All that marble makes for some fantastic acoustics.

Outside the chambers, the Guard has  show-and-tell tables set up to showcase their sniper riffles, surveillance equipment, and emergency response gear.

Here's a bio-suit with a self-contained environment that they use for dealing with chemical hazards and WMDs:

They also brought the "Freedom Cruiser."
