Pot Decriminalization Bill Still Puffing

By Josh Feit January 25, 2010

As PubliCola Olympia correspondent Josh Cohen reported last week in his roundup of bills on the ACLU's radar screen (both good ones and bad ones from their POV), Seattle-area state Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles' (D-36) decriminalization bill is still alive.

The ACLU likes that one.

And with this year's budget crisis, they're spinning it as a fiscal measure.

"The bill would save our state and local governments $16 million per year," says ACLU spokesperson Doug Honig (mostly local says PubliCola), "and would raise an additional $1 million to be put towards drug treatment programs."
