Extra Fizz: Crunican's Second-In-Command Leaves for SHA

By Erica C. Barnett January 27, 2010

Anne Fiske-Zuniga, the First Deputy Director at the Seattle Department of Transportation, is leaving SDOT to lead the Yesler Terrace redevelopment project for the Seattle Housing Authority. Her departure follows the resignation of Grace Crunican, the department's director, in December.

Fiske-Zuniga said that although she was "sad to see Grace go," Crunican's departure wasn't her reason for leaving SDOT. "I have to admit that I've had my eye on SHA and their impressive redevelopment projects for quite some time now," she said. "

"The Yesler Terrace redevelopment is an extremely cool project that brings together many city concerns: housing, urban density, thoughtful design, transportation, etc... I'm excited to be a part of it."

In an email to all SDOT employees announcing Fiske-Zuniga's departure, Crunican wrote, "I must admit that it is with more sadness than joy that I announce that Anne Fiske Zuniga, #1 Deputy Director of SDOT, will be leaving us to take a new position at the Seattle Housing Authority. ... It is a dynamic project, to say the least, and will utilize all of Anne’s creativity and talent for getting things done.

"For SDOT, it is a loss—there is no way around it.  Anne has been the glue, the spark and the leader of many initiatives within SDOT.  We will miss her terribly but I know she will visit us often as she will need SDOT’s help in streetcar, sidewalk, road and bike facility improvements.  Her last day at SDOT will be February 26, 2010.   We wish her well as she continues on her career path.  We will have a party to celebrate and cry together."
