The DCCC vs. Mr. Reichert and Mr. Rodgers

By Chris Kissel May 9, 2009

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has been on  Rep. Dave Reichert's (D-WA, 8) case all session.

And last week, with a vote coming up on the "Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights," they pounced again,  sending out a press release pressuring Rep. Reichert  to "[listen] to hardworking Americans and side with consumers."

Whether it had to do with the press release (or his latest Microsoft richie challenger) or not, Reichert voted with the Democrats, banning credit card companies from retroactively raising interest rates. "I’m pleased to join members on both sides of the aisle to pass this important bill that will protect families and small businesses from deceptive lending practices and empower them to make smart financial decisions during these trying economic times,” Reichert said in a statement.

The DCCC also went after rising GOP star Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA,5), sending out a press release after she voted against the Democrats. McMorris Rodgers' office didn't call me back today.

One funny footnote—in that DCCC press release, one sentence stood out above the rest: "... today Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers maintained his clear record of support in protecting the interests of big credit card companies instead of hardworking Americans.”

(Thanks to eagle-eyed Jim Camden at the Spokesman Review for pointing out the DCCC gaffe.)
