Re: PubliCola Blog-Rola

By Josh Feit February 3, 2009

I'd like to call your attention to another member of the Blog-Rola elite, Schmudget, which is Yiddish for budget.

Schmudget is the blog brought to you by the math brains over at the Washington State Budget & Policy  Center, a think tank that I have found invaluable  over the years as I've covered Olympia's budget.

Today, in a post  titled "Governor's New Online Tool Provides Opportunity to Explore Budget Options—Or Does It?"—the typically even-keeled WSB&PC, gets lippy with the Governor as they broach a subject we tried to talk about last week, tax increases:

...Any reasonable budget-setting process should consider both sides of the equation - spending and revenue. The online calculator set up by the Governor's office only allows spending cuts. Where there should be a place to explore various revenue options, it simply says "The Governor is committed to not raising taxes." Public consideration of revenue options is not permitted.
