Property Watch: Penthouse Panoramas in South Lake Union

Paul Allen’s former clubhouse is now a pretty posh place to live.

When Paul Allen was dreaming up what South Lake Union would one day become, he used the top floor of the Pan Pacific Seattle as mission headquarters. Late on a Friday night, he’d stand up here with cocktail in hand, music in the background, pointing out what could be.

The future is here. Back then, the view that unfolded from the 18th floor was of warehouses, car dealerships, and fishing operations. Less than two decades later, the view has changed just a little, and the top floor of the hotel has been converted into three penthouse condo units.

Upon entering this two-bedroom unit, a long hallway leads you to the main event—a wall of 12-foot-tall floor-to-ceiling windows. From the living room, views include the Space Needle, Puget Sound, and Olympic mountains. Next to the fireplace, built-in art niches with uplighting highlight all your most treasured (or at least photogenic) possessions.

The home has undergone $400,000 of renovations in the past two years, including in the kitchen. Which now contains a Monogram cooktop, a sub-zero refrigerator, custom cabinetry, and a Carrara marble waterfall island and full-height backsplash.

The primary bedroom is 14 feet by 18 feet, with a fireplace and sweeping views that make it tough to get out of bed. But once you do, you can luxuriate in the en-suite bathroom’s spa tub, then go pick out your outfit for the day in the walk-in closet that’s about the size of a typical bedroom.

The secondary bedroom also has an en-suite bathroom, along with sliding-door access to the 500-square-foot private terrace that’s a hit with both pets and party guests. In the summer months, it’s perfect for alfresco dining.

Owners have access to the amenities of the Pan Pacific, including a fitness center, spa, and concierge who will take care of packages and deliveries for you. You can also get to Whole Foods without ever leaving the building, and two parking spots are included.
