Ready to live the island life? This spacious home is on Clark Point at the northern end of small Guemes Island—just 8.6 square miles!—less than a mile offshore from Anacortes. Despite its little locale, this property is compound-level big, with hiking trails, a pool, a whopping 810 feet of sandy waterfront, two large ponds, and outdoor amenities so plush you may never want to go inside.

Apparently, it’s a work in progress—the listing says that the design by Bainbridge Island architect Bernie Baker is about two-thirds done. A two-story “cabana and rec building” has two bedrooms and an interior of more than 2,800 square feet, and its most cabana-like trait is that it borders a large pool with a diving board. On one side, the roof extends over an outdoor fireplace and an in-ground hot tub for unmatched open-air lounging. An outdoor poolside kitchen gives this area most of the comforts of an indoor home.

The guest house rises up like a cathedral, topped with a metal spire. Inside, a spiral staircase winds up to an airy, sunny room coated in cabin-like wood planks with two-story windows peering out over the ocean and San Juan views.

The guesthouse and the “cabana” both serve as frames for their surroundings. The perfectly matched upper windows of the tower leave a water view open, and on the lower level of the other building, an artful boat-like window bank gives the illusion of an outdoor space. Those window banks both open, connecting the living room and full kitchen inside to the suite of outdoor goodies on one side. The other leads to the guesthouse and the foundation of the next building, so it has the potential to expand the pool party even more.

It’s not all relaxation stations, though. There’s plenty of adventure on this acreage, including a large sports court. A barn seems ready for horses (although, we admit, Property Watch is not an authoritative source on equine matters). An enclosed kayak garage keeps your watercraft ready by the beach.

Guemes Island is just a five-minute ferry ride from downtown Anacortes, and boats run every 30 minutes or so—although the listing notes that there’s room for a helipad, in case that’s a practical solution for you. The island itself is pretty sleepy, but at the south end, the Guemes Island General Store is both a small grocery and a cafe.
