This Just In: Glassybabies Now More Omnipresent in Seattle Restaurants than Pork Belly

Might be quicker to post a list of the restaurants that don’t have ’em

Purty, eh?

Because I eat out so often, people often ask me if there are certain things I see a lot of in Seattle restaurants.

Yes. Pork belly.

What else? Well lately it seems like all restaurants—modern to traditional, upscale to down—feature a single design element that’s more ubiquitous than any decorative item I have ever encountered in a restaurant. Glassybabies.

Last week I roasted my forearm reaching across one of the little beauties to swipe a fistful of my husband’s five-spice French fries at Fresh Bistro. Earlier that day I’d spied them glowing sexily at Serafina.

The week before I’d noticed them at Taste, Bennett’s, John Howie Steak, and Wild Ginger.

(Apparently, they’re at both the Seattle and Eastside Wild Gingers. And at both the Seattle and Eastside Monsoons. And at both the Seattle and Eastside Seastars)

Glassybabies—the spherical, magical palm-sized votives that are blown in a studio in Madrona—are, in short, everywhere.

Where have you seen them?
